Umpiring

Season Umpires

Junior umpires are needed for this season which gets underway in the first week of May.

Hockey umpiring is not only a great way to earn some extra cash over the weekend, but it also improves your understanding of the great game of hockey and makes you an even better player.

Whether you are a player, parent or just a hockey nerd, umpiring is a great way to stay involved with the game we all love and who knows! The Olympic Games might be in your radar!

Beginners are welcome – if you are keen to take up the challenge to improve yourself, learn the rules of hockey and help the club at the same time.

Suburban Lions offers support, training and mentoring prior to and throughout the season.

We will do theory and practical training with your before the season with some of our experienced senior umpires. We will be there to help you throughout the season.

You will be assigned a team depending on your level of experience, (please don’t be shy if you are a first timer!) and umpire for that team for the season. Lifts to weekly games can easily be arranged wit the team manager.  However, we know life sometimes gets in the way and we can arrange a fill-in for you if you are unavailable. On the flip side, there are sometimes extra games available to umpire should you want to fill in yourself for those.

Games are played on Friday nights, Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings. If you are over 13 and available for any of these times, please don’t hesitate to email us at umpire@suburbanlions.org.au and we will place you with an appropriate age group and grade. As mentioned, we provide training before the season begins should you require it and support throughout if you have any queries.

We look forward to hearing from you!
