It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of another great member and supporter of the club.
Robert (Chum) Phillips passed away peacefully on Sunday 9 July.
Chum was born in 1935, joined Suburban Hockey Club in 1952 and was still playing in 2011. In 1977 he was the inaugural winner of the Club Captain's Trophy.
Chum was the club historian for many years compiling statistics and details of every season back to our first years in the 1920s. His records, known as the Journal of the Suburban Hockey Club, were instrumental in the history compiled for the club in 2003 by Astrid Hansen.
Chum was known for his gentleness, thoughtfulness, and keen sense of humour. He never had a bad word for anyone, even the opposition, a rare trait within our club.
Always active helping the club, Chum will be badly missed by his loving family and our club.
