Why should I join the Academy at the start of the New Year?
The new hockey season approaches quickly in the New Year. With the long break between seasons, the Academy will aid in developing & reaffirming the core skills required to play your best game regardless of your ability level. It will also give you the needed confidence leading into junior trials & give you the best opportunity to show your best performance.
What will I learn at the Academy?
The Head Coach, Lindsey Wright, will plan each Academy session around enhancing the core technical skills needed to advance your gameplay, as well as small game contests to help & nurture decision-making. Due to the open registration process for all age groups for each session, the coaches will divide groups into appropriate strength-on-strength abilities to ensure suitable training challenges.
Who can attend the Academy?
The Academy is for all Suburban Lions Junior Hockey Members who already have a basic understanding of how to play the game of hockey and want to improve on their current ability in an unpressurised environment alongside players of the same capacity. The Academy will also accept registrations from surrounding hockey clubs' junior members who would like to take advantage of the program.
Minkey players - we welcome year 4 players who have 2+ years minkey hockey experience. They will need to be able to concentrate for 1.5 hrs.
What will the Academy Coaches expect from all attending players?
The Academy Coaches will want you to use the full one and a half hours to listen and give your best effort at all times. The Coaches will encourage & challenge you to discover & persist in improving your overall game at your own pace & ability.
Do I need to attend all the sessions?
No, you don't, but it would allow you to show consistent improvements if you did. You can participate in intermittent sessions if you cannot attend them all. Please see the registration website for payment options.
What do I need to bring?
Water Bottle, mouth guard, shin guards, hockey stick, shoes for artificial turf & great energy & attitude!
